Everything You Need to Throw the Perfect, “Wild One” First Birthday Party!
On September 30, 2020 by Megan FolsomA couple of weeks ago, little Trussler turned one! I still can’t believe it. We chose the Wild One first birthday theme and LOVED it.
It was such a simple theme, easy to find decorations for, but still cute and neutral-colored.
Why Throw a Wild One First Birthday Party?
We decided to go all out to celebrate his first year with us and throw him a little party. As much as I want to be, I’m definitely not a Pinterest-perfect decorator, but I still wanted it to be cute.
Mainly, we wanted a theme that wouldn’t break the bank, would be simple enough for me to put together, and would have decorations that we could potentially use later for something else.
Hence… The “WILD ONE!” theme, based off of the classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are.
Also, it’s hard to do a lot of in-store shopping with a little one, so it was a huge bonus for me that I was able to find 99% of these party necessities for our party theme online!
What Do I Need for a First Birthday Party?
Outfits:
- the cutest outfit for the cake smash (Unfortunately, it ended up being too cold outside and we were so sad not to be able to use this, but we saved it in our costume box.)
- party outfit (Plus, there are different versions available here for colder weather and warmer weather)
- crowns for party guests (Make sure to pull these out a few days ahead of time to help them be less flat, because they come folded up!)
Decor:
- white Wild One balloons
- white balloons with gold confetti (be careful with popping this indoors, they are a mess to clean up!)
- balloon sticks (You could also do helium and strings, but it’s much more affordable to use sticks instead.)
- large balloon for the picture wall (comes with manual pump we used)
- greenery for the picture wall
- cutest Wild One decor posters
- black frames for the posters
- chalkboard and chalk markers or letterboard
- white table covers
- Where the Wild Things Are hardcover book as a keepsake for guests to sign
Food table:
- gold table runner
- Wild One dinnerware set (plates, cups, napkins)
- cake topper
- cupcake toppers
- We used a lot of clear dishes and serving utensils that we already had and others from our local Dollar Tree to save on money!
Finally, make sure to have your phone/camera fully charged and on you at all times, as well as plenty of baby wipes to clean up after the cake smash!
Don’t stress too much about a one-year old’s birthday party and most importantly, HAVE FUN celebrating your cute babe!
