Maternity Dresses and Loungewear for Pregnancy, Delivery, Postpartum and Breastfeeding

When you’re pregnant, delivering your newborn and recovering postpartum, you spend SO much time at home lounging. I highly recommend investing in at least a few super comfortable outfits that are also practical for your needs. Trust me, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth out of them and be so grateful to have some options when nothing fits right anymore and you’re super uncomfortable.

These are also the perfect gift to get for an expecting mom or a mom who has just had a new baby. Everyone is usually so focused on the baby and buying cute things and newborn must-haves for them, that tired, pregnant mamas are often overlooked. Any pregnant mom would LOVE to receive a cute, comfortable dress or matching lounge set as a baby shower gift! (Just don’t forget to include the gift receipt in case she needs to exchange it for another size!)

Pregnancy and Maternity Clothes

The nice thing about all of these outfits linked below is that they will fit through several stages of your motherhood journey. As you get further into your pregnancy, you will probably start to prefer comfort over style and everything will start to feel too tight.

Luckily, I have been able to find a lot of options where both are possible, though – you can be both comfortable AND cute in these dresses and matching lounge sets! All of these affordable pregnancy and postpartum options are especially perfect for lounging at home and casually hanging out with friends. They are also amazing substitutes for maternity pajamas.

Grab a few of these comfy outfits below, and get to work on these 15 things that you should do before going into labor! You’ll definitely be feeling comfortable AND prepared for that cute baby to arrive!

Outfits for Delivery and the Hospital Stay

Personally, I love black, patterned or dark-colored ones for the hospital, then you don’t have to stress about them looking dirty or stained. Since I breastfeed, nursing-friendly buttons or zippers down the front were a definite requirement.

While in the hospital, I found it very convenient to have a dress that unzipped completely in the front. The zipper meant that I could pull it down as much as I needed to breastfeed. I loved that I could unzip it completely when being examined by the doctor or nurse, too. Along the same lines, robes work very well for this too!

When you’re packing your hospital bag, you’ll definitely want to pack a couple of these dresses. Even if you opt to stay in the hospital gown during your stay, you may want to have something a little cuter and more covering to slip into when visitors show up. Plus, you’ll definitely be comfortable in any of these as your going home outfit after checking out of the hospital.

Dresses and Loungewear for Postpartum

Similar to the hospital stay, I also loved having darker or outfits with patterns during my postpartum recovery period at home. With breast engorgement, leaking and bodily fluids, it’s definitely much more practical than white. But, don’t worry – I’ve included some super cute white dresses and loungewear, in case that’s more your style!

A few weeks after having my son, my body started going through some pretty extreme hormonal changes. I would actually wake up drenched in sweat, so I REALLY appreciated having multiple options that I could change into in the middle of the night.

This list below has plenty of options, whether you’re looking for spring, summer, fall or winter. There are long-sleeved maternity and postpartum options if you run cold. On the other hand, there are plenty of short lounge sets, dresses and rompers in case you run hot. (Even though I always ran very hot while I was pregnany, I had friends pregnant at the same time who were always freezing!)

I generally hang-dry most of our clothes, BUT when I was looking for pregnancy and postpartum options, I knew that I’d bee looking for easy care instructions. All of the ones I have bought have done well in the washer and dryer with no issues at all! (Obviously, you’ll want to check any tags for care instructions and use your best judgment, though.)
